Letter [manuscript]. 1901.

Letter written from Capetown, South Africa to Richard Thurban, New South Wales. Describes Ryrie's experiences in the Boer War after leaving Australia in 1900. Ryrie mentions experiences in Beira, Bamboo Creek, Manandillas, Bulawayo, Mafeking, Lichtenburg, and Marico River and describes in detail the incident in which he was shot.

Soldier. Commissioned second lieutenant in the 1st Australian Horse 1898. Served in the South African War, initially as a captain, with the 6th (New South Wales) Imperial Bushmen from May 1900 to June 1901. Severely wounded September 1900 at Wonderfontein.
